On Monday, October 7, DLFF Scholar Calleigh Joyce ’25 was honored by Family Service (FS) with the Susan N. Altomari “Champion for Youth” Award for her leadership and commitment to the organization. The award was presented to Calleigh at the 25th Annual Family Service Association of Bucks County Drive for Youth Golf Outing and Dinner.
Julie Dees, CEO of Family Service, spoke passionately about the work Calleigh has contributed to the organization and the difference she has made in the process. “Calleigh has never stopped being committed to her projects with us,” said Dees. “She has made a lasting and positive impact on those that we serve.”
Throughout Calleigh’s four years at Conwell-Egan, she has consistently volunteered her time to Family Service and its different projects and initiatives. Calleigh has been instrumental in organizing the FS Emergency Shelter garage, the FS office, and tending to the Hope & Healing Garden. Calleigh’s hard work didn’t stop when the school year ended. During the summer, she took part in DLFF’s Summer of Service where she spent even more of her time working with FS.
Shortly after receiving her award from FS, Calleigh was presented with a citation from both Pennsylvania State Representative Joe Hogan and the office of Pennsylvania Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick. Representative Hogan remarked, “It’s important to come out and recognize young adults who get involved in their community. In the age of technology and social media, it’s hard to find somebody to volunteer.”
“Your work [at Family Service] is part of state history now,” added Hogan. “This has been entered into the journal of our senate and at the state house. So as long as Pennsylvania is a state, your hard work and dedication will forever be noted there.”
A representative from the office of Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick also gave Calleigh flowers. “I want to recognize such a special individual. It is amazing that someone at such a young age can do something so great for a great organization.”
Calleigh’s achievements are nothing short of impressive. We are so proud of Calleigh and her continued commitment to FS. We cannot wait to see what the future has in store for her. Congratulations, Calleigh! Way to make history.
