As a part of our Scholar Spotlight series, we sat down with DLFF scholar Macey Charmant to get to know more about her and various service projects that she's worked on within DLFF.
Macey is a rising junior at Conwell-Egan Catholic High School. Macey is extremely committed to DLFF and the responsibilities that come with being a DLFF/CEC scholar, however, she still makes time to continue the activities she is passionate about outside of DLFF. She enjoys dancing, volunteering, and spending time with her friends.
Throughout her time in DLFF, Macey has volunteered for numerous service opportunities including working with the United Way and Pennsbury Manor while also working closely with Mrs. Kathy Shegda on the Education Service Team.
“Macy was a leader from a young age. We saw her leadership traits shine through at Holy Trinity as a Pathway Scholar. She has not only continued her leadership and commitment to service but has grown to become a DLFF/CEC scholar that we often rely on,” said Mrs. Shedga.
We asked Macey if there was a specific project that she had worked on that meant the most to her. To no one’s surprise, Macey said the Homework Zone at Holy Trinity School. “Homework Zone with the Education Service Team is the most meaningful to me. Seeing the joy all the kids are having just by showing up gives me the motivation to continue wanting to help out.”
With DLFF community service opportunities taking up some of her time, Macey says she is able to balance her school life by prioritizing. Her schoolwork comes first, followed by her volunteer efforts and community service commitments. Macey also attributes DLFF with helping to advance her skills in communication, leadership, and time management.
It is Macey’s hope that while she continues her journey through CEC and DLFF, she will be able to continue to serve on the Student Leadership Council within DLFF. As for her plans post CEC/DLFF, Macey wants to go to college as a pre-med major, followed by medical school to fulfill her dream of being a pediatrician.
Finally, Macey shared with us some advice she would offer to those who will be new to DLFF in the 2025-2026 school year. “Find a service opportunity that interests you, it helps provide the motivation to do more in the community.”
We are so proud of Macey and all of her hard work and commitment both inside and outside of DLFF. We cannot wait to see everything she goes on to accomplish as she enters her junior year. Keep up the great work, Macey!
