As a part of our Scholar Spotlight series, we sat down with DLFF/CEC Scholar Tate Martin to get to know more about him and the various service projects that he has worked on throughout his time within DLFF.

Tate Martin is a Junior at Conwell-Egan Catholic High School, born and raised in Morrisville, PA. In his free time, Tate likes to unwind by watching movies, and playing video games with his friends from school. Tate says that spending time with his friends and working with robotics are two of his favorite activities.

Out of the many different service projects Tate has participated in, he says that his time working with Holy Trinity School is the one he enjoys most.

“I was able to go to my old school and work with the teachers and students that I used to hang out with all the time,” says Tate. “Seeing their faces when they learned something and being able to feel like I was helping the school gave me so much happiness”.

He continues, “I like being able to feel the difference that I am making in people's lives, I also gain a lot from helping because at the end of the day, it is a two-way street, and we are all helping each other.”

Tate gives credit to his grandfather for being his biggest inspiration. “My grandpa showed me how to live a life in Jesus' name while also being the most humble and respected person I have ever met,” Tate explained. “My grandpa inspires me to be who I am today.”

His love of robotics led him to one of his biggest accomplishments, placing second in a local robotics competition. Tate says it helped him build confidence while reinforcing he can do anything he sets his mind to. It also gave him the opportunity to work in a team setting with his friends.

For the remainder of his time as a DLFF scholar, Tate hopes to work with some of the local Catholic elementary schools to help get kids interested in STEM education through his love of robotics. His goal upon graduation from CEC is to go to college for electrical engineering.

Congratulations and excellent work, Tate! We are so proud of everything you have done; we cannot wait to see all the amazing things you do before you graduate.
